Course Reflection:

This semester, I learned a great deal about photography and editing. In the beginning of the course, I knew a little about photography and was familiar with a DSLR, but we immediately learned photoshop skills in our 'first edits' that taught me how to enhance my images drastically. These photoshop skills were built and applied throughout the entire duration of the course, and are one of the best skills that I got out of the class. I enjoyed going to the carriage barn and seeing professional art and photography because it helped inspire the way I thought about doing projects later on and gave me creative inspiration. One of my favorite projects was painting with light, because I have always seen those pictures and wondered how they were done and finally got to learn. I also learned a lot about photoshop in that assignment, learning to play with layers and colors of the lights, eventually making my final product that made it to the school show. While I knew how to use my camera before this class, I learned a lot more about why every part of the camera works, and how it produces the images, which is really interesting to me. The pinhole project especially showed me this hands on, and even gave me experience in the darkroom which was awesome. I think for future classes, people would really enjoy more time in the darkroom because it is very fun and teaches the process of developing photos. I also enjoyed learning about all of the different photographers over time, and it was neat to have that perspective involved in the class. Overall, I had an amazing time in this class, and can't wait to continue to develop and learn new skills in photo design next semester. Thank you Ms. McDonagh!!
